Uber in Ghana: Everything You Need To Know! [MUST READ]

Uber in Ghana

Yes, Uber has saved many people from the monopoly of arrogant Taxi drivers.

But traditional taxi drivers in Ghana look at those Daewoo Matiz popularly called “Kambuu” cars with great envy and dismay.

For several years now, Uber has become a worldwide phenomenon. Even with its own Wikipedia entry for the word “Uberisation”.

The Uberisation sensation hit Ghana in June 2016. And like anywhere in the world, the early adaptors (especially drivers) enjoyed some huge gains.

The heat is still on but not as it used to be. More and more people now understand the concept. People are getting used to it. (peer-to-peer service, rideshare, ride-hailing, etc…)

From heading out to the city center for quick shopping to setting off to catch a VIP bus, Uber has got you covered. Further, you can order an early morning ride to catch your scheduled flight at the airport too.

Kumasi being the second-largest city in Ghana, an expansion of this ride-hailing service in Accra only meant an entry into the equally responsive Kumasi market.

And that’s quite obvious, isn’t it?

After a successful trial and implementation in the capital city, Accra in 2016. Uber formally announced its entry into the Kumasi market on August 30, 2017, and there has been no turning back from then.

What is UberX?

UberX is the cheapest and most popular private car service that Uber has to offer. It is commonly referred to as the “low-cost uber” for riders.

Basically, UberX allows you to quickly arrive at your destination at a lower cost without breaking the bank. Despite being a budget option, your experience will be worth a million bucks.

Even though there are strict model & year requirements for each vehicle, there are exceptions to that rule in Ghana. (but don’t worry about being picked up in a beater, you can always verify and make a better choice on the app)

As of now, Uber offers the uberX tier car service in Ghana. Lemme know in the comments area if there are any changes to this.

Unlike other developed worlds where Uber offers another high-end private car service. However, Uber in Ghana only offers the uberX model.

Of course, it may be the most viable marketing strategy because it is the least expensive on-demand private car service available on the market today.

All you have to do is hail one to pick you up. “UberX – Affordable everyday ride”

With UberX, you’re in your everyday car, by your everyday driver.
